In rehearsals for Stoke, a Love Story
About
I am a producer and director working across theatre, audio and place-based creative projects, based on the border between Stoke-on-Trent and Cheshire.
My work centres on people, place and participation. I specialise in developing ambitious creative projects with communities, young people and artists, often in non-traditional settings, and in building the structures, partnerships and conditions that allow that work to happen with care, rigour and integrity.
Over the past decade I have led and produced work across the Midlands and North West, including large-scale community collaborations, youth-led projects, audio work and site-specific theatre staged in venues ranging from care homes and town halls to empty shops and heritage sites. I am particularly interested in work that creates genuine encounter and connection, and in making cultural spaces where people feel seen rather than performed at.
I am co-founder and director of Potboiler Theatre, a women-led company known for new writing and site-responsive work rooted in Stoke-on-Trent. Recent projects include Gay Stoke, supported by Historic England, which explored local LGBTQ+ histories through performance, archival research and intergenerational collaboration.
Alongside my artistic practice, I work extensively in cultural leadership, research engagement and sector development. I collaborate with universities and research partners to design and deliver creative engagement projects that translate complex research into accessible, human-centred experiences. This includes facilitating workshops, producing artistic responses, and supporting researchers to work ethically and meaningfully with communities.
I am also a writer, producing reflective and practice-based writing for communities, artists and organisations. My writing often sits alongside projects, capturing process, learning and lived experience, and is rooted in practice rather than theory.
I am Producer and Facilitator for Stoke Creates’ Cultural Forum, convening creatives, organisations and partners across the city, and I am an Associate Leader with Culture Central, contributing to regional cultural strategy, peer learning and leadership development.
My background includes twelve years as Youth Theatre Director at The New Vic Theatre, and an ongoing commitment to work with children and young people. I have produced and directed audio projects including The Music of Motherhoodpodcast series and The Secret City, a living history trail exploring Stoke-on-Trent through sound.
At the heart of my work is a belief in creativity as a social act. I am endlessly curious about people, I love rooms full of them, and I make work that invites attention, care and connection.
